PACIFIC – It’s not every day you get to speak with someone who has been to space.
On Dec. 14, 2023, a panel of three current and former NASA astronauts met virtually with DoDEA Pacific students to talk about career pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and answer student-submitted questions about space, including what Earth looks like from space and how astronauts live at the International Space Station.
In total, 4,163 K-12 DoDEA Pacific students participated in the conversation from classrooms located at 16 military installations and 41 schools in the region.
DoDEA Pacific appreciates its partnership with the USO, which makes opportunities such as this possible through its Military Virtual Programming (MVP) series. Since 2020, military-connected students have experienced virtual programming designed to enhance curricular programs featuring talent such as Bill Nye the Science Guy, actress/singer Sofia Carson, actors Ralph Macchio and Yuji Okumoto of Cobra Kai, members of the U.S. Olympic swim team, the USO Show Troupe, and authors Brad Meltzer and Jeff Kinney.
